Hoffman’s Second-Half Goal Forces Draw Between Valkyries and Bobcats

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Both teams scored once in each half of Wednesday evening's Conference Carolinas matchup between the Converse University women's soccer team (1-2-2, 0-1-1 Conference Carolinas) and the Lees-McRae Bobcats (0-2-2, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) as the divisional foes drew 2-2.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gabriella Gudeman recorded four saves in her complete-game performance.

The Valkyries narrowly edged the Bobcats in shots 12-10 but Lees-McRae attempted one more shot on-target, 6-5.

The Valkyries struck first in the 21st minute as sophomore forward Norah Greer boosted a ball that was dribbling towards the goal from senior midfielder Jasmine Hernandez. Lees-McRae tied the game in the 36th minute. Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the rest of the opening half, sending the game to halftime 1-1.

The Bobcats needed just over 15 minutes in the second half to score their go-ahead goal, putting them up for the first time in the contest, 2-1.

But just 15 minutes after that, junior forward Hannah Liebig found freshman forward Kathryn Hoffman for the late equalizer.

Each team attempted two shots in the final 15 minutes, one on goal and one off-target, but neither was able to score the decisive third goal and the game finished in a draw 2-2.
