SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 2-1 in overtime to Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium.
With the loss Converse falls to 2-2 overall on the season, while Slippery Rock improves to 3-1 on the year. The Valkyries are now 1-4 in overtime games dating back to last season, a 1-0 shootout win over Belmont Abbey on September 25
th was the Valkyries last overtime or later victory.
The first half was slow and methodical between the two squads as each team had opportunities but could not convert in the first 30 minutes of the match. Going into the halftime break, Slippery held a 4-3 edge in total shots against the Valkyries.
In the third quarter Slippery Rock broke through with a goal by Hilary Hoffman. The Valkyries were out shot 6-4 in the third period. In the final quarter of action, the Converse offense came to life as they out shot Slippery Rock 5-3. With just six minutes to go in regulation,

Sage Pilarski for the equalizing goal.
In the overtime period both teams had chances early on in the period, however, disaster struck for the Valkyries in the final 30 seconds as Roz Mikulak found Lucy Hutchinson for the game-winner against Converse.
