Pair of First Career Goals Lead Valkyries Past Trojans

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshmen Levi Bankirer and Jacob Bandel led the Converse University men's soccer team (1-2, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) past the Mount Olive Trojans (0-4, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) with their first career goals Saturday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium.

The Valkyries outshot the Trojans 11-5 in the first half and 12-7 in the second half. The difference in shots on goal was 7-4 in favor of the Valkyries.

Bankirer's goal came just over three minutes into the match off of an assist from senior forward Guilherme Fontes, putting the Valkyries up for good.

Just under 14 minutes later, Bandel outpaced the Trojans' defense on a ball from redshirt-senior goalkeeper Harry O'Brien, turning the rare goalkeeper assist into his first career goal.

Both teams made pushes for the goal over the final 73 minutes of the game, including all four of the Trojans' shots on goal, but the early lead held as the Valkyries won 2-0.
