FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Converse Volleyball team defeated Emmanuel 3-1 on Wednesday evening inside the Shaw Athletic Center.
With the win the Valkyries have now won back-to-back matches against Emmanuel for the first time in program history. Converse improves to 14-6 overall and 10-3 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, Emmanuel falls to 13-7 overall and 10-3 in Conference Carolinas play.
In the opening set, Emmanuel jumped out to an 8-3 advantage over the Valkyries before Converse rallied back to tie the set at nine. The Lions once again jumped out to a 14-10 lead over the Valkyries midway through the period, but Converse once again answered and tied the set at 16. Emmanuel ended the first set on a 5-0 run and won the opening period by a final score of 25-19.
In the second set the two teams were deadlocked through the first 18 points of the period. Emmanuel then made the first move and held a 16-10 advantage midway through the second stanza. Converse slowly chipped away at the Lions lead throughout the set and they eventually tied the period at 22. The Valkyries held off set point not once but twice and won the final three points of the period to win the second set 27-25.
In the third set, the Valkyries were the team that jumped out to a 12-7 lead over Emmanuel. Converse eventually built their lead to 17-11 and 20-15. The Valkyries held off the Lions offense and won the third period by a final score of 25-18.
Converse jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the fourth period of action. Converse continued to build their lead and eventually held a 16-10 advantage midway through the period. The Valkyries never let up and finished the fourth period by winning the set 25-15 over Emmanuel.
Converse finished the match with 71 points, 52 kills, 11 aces, 8 blocks, 47 assists and 67 digs.
Ariel Bryant finished with a team high 15 kills on the evening,
Bree Lyons finished second on the team with 12 kills and
Megan Carpenter finished third on the team with nine kills.
Lilli Redifer led the team with four aces,
Alysha Arroyo finished second on the team with three aces and
Alayah Robertson added a pair of aces. Robertson and
Ava Trentman finished with four blocks each and Arroyo had a trio of blocks.
Arroyo led the team with 41 assists,
Noemia Chiacchio finished second on the team with six assists on the evening. Chiacchio led the team with 16 digs on the evening, Lyons finished with 14 digs and Redifer contributed 11 digs.
