Valkyries Set School Record For Consecutive Sets Won

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. –  The Converse Volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Young Harris 3-1 inside the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.

By winning the first two sets on Saturday afternoon the Valkyries won their 12th and 13th consecutive sets dating back to a win over Belmont Abbey nearly two weeks. Last season the Valkyries tied the program record with 12 straight sets won in early September. With the win Converse improves to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in Conference Carolinas play. Meanwhile, Young Harris falls to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in Conference Carolinas action.

In the opening set, the Valkyries jumped out to a 10-4 advantage over Young Harris. The Valkyries stretched their lead to 19-9 over the Mountain Lions and won the opening set by a final score of 25-14.

In the second set, the two teams were tied through the first 10 points of the period. A few moments later the Valkyries held a 12-6 advantage and eventually turned that into an 18-9 lead over Young Harris. Converse ended the second set on a 7-3 run and won the period by a final score of 25-12.

In the third set Converse fell behind 6-2 to the Mountain Lions, the Valkyries rallied and quickly countered with a run of their own to tie the set at eight. Late in the third period, the set was tied at 18 when Young Harris made a four point run against Converse. The Mountain Lions went on to win the third set 25-21 over the Valkyries.

In the fourth set, the Valkyries jumped out to a 4-1 run and eventually held a 9-5 advantage over Young Harris. The two teams went back-and-forth the majority of the set but the Valkyries eventually built a 22-16 advantage over Young Harris. Converse won the final set 25-20 and completed the Valkyries eighth straight win in Conference Carolinas play.

Converse finished with 70 points, 56 kills, 10 aces, 4 blocks, 52 assists and 72 digs. Ariel Bryant, Alayah Robertson and Bree Lyons all finished with 12 kills. Alysha Arroyo finished with a team high 41 assists, Noemia Chiacchio finished with a team best 18 digs. Bryant finished second on the team with 14 digs and Lilli Redifer finished third on the team with 11 digs.

Next Up:
The Converse volleyball team returns to the Weisiger Center on Tuesday evening to battle King University at 6:00 p.m.
