Valkyries Clinch Share of Northwest Division Championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  The Converse Volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over King on Tuesday evening inside the Weisiger Center.

With the win Converse clinches a share of their second straight Conference Carolinas Northwest Division Championship. The Valkyries are now 13-5 overall, 9-2 in Conference Carolinas play and a perfect 6-0 in Northwest Division action. Converse has now won six straight matches overall and nine straight Conference Carolinas matches dating back to last month. With the loss, King drops to 5-12 overall and 3-7 in Conference Carolinas play.

In the opening set, the Valkyries jumped out to an 11-5 lead over the Tornado. Converse eventually extended their lead to 18-10 over King and went on to win the opening set 25-18. The Valkyries hit .500 in the opening set and recorded 16 kills on 30 attacks.

In the second set, Converse fell behind 6-3 in the early moments of the period before they rallied to tie the match at six. A few moments later the Valkyries used a 6-1 run to take a 13-10 advantage over the Tornado. Converse grew their lead to 21-16 and went on to win the third set 25-18 over King.

In the final set the Valkyries took care of business earlier, opening up the final period on a 12-2 run against the Tornado. The Valkyries let King make a slight comeback throughout the period but ultimately won the final frame 25-17.

Converse tallied 53 points, 39 kills, 10 aces, 4 blocks, 35 assists and 57 digs. Alayah Robertson led the team with 9 kills, Bree Lyons finished second on the team with 8 kills and Ava Trentman was third on the team with 7 kills. Alysha Arroyo led the team with 32 assists, while Noemia Chiacchio led the team with four aces and 26 digs.

Next Up:
The Converse volleyball team will stay at home and battle Erskine on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. inside the Weisiger Center.
