Gensler Flashes 2022 Flair in Two-Goal Victory Over Emmanuel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – It took nearly the entire 90 minutes for the Converse University men's soccer team (9-1-5, 6-0-4 Conference Carolinas) to defeat the Emmanuel University Lions (7-4-2, 6-4-1 Conference Carolinas) on Wednesday at Weisiger Stadium. After falling behind early in the second half, senior Hayden Gensler netted both of the Valkyries' goals to push Converse past Emmanuel 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions broke open the scoring just over seven minutes into the second half.

Gensler, the 2022 Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year, netted his fourth goal of the season with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game. The assist came from fellow senior Tatsuki Kobayashi.

With both teams now even, it appeared like neither would be able to find the elusive second goal.

It wasn't until just inside of 10 seconds remaining in the match, the Valkyries staged a strong attack inside of the box and Kobayashi again found Gensler for a Valkyrie goal, this time sealing the match 2-1.

The Valkyries return to the pitch on Saturday, Nov. 2 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats for senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 P.M..
