Late Goal Forces Valkyries to Settle For Draw With King

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite netting a goal within the first 20 of their match with the King University Tornado (3-5-3, 2-3-3 Conference Carolinas), the Converse University men's soccer team (8-1-3, 5-0-2 Conference Carolinas) was forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding a second-half goal.

Converse held King without a shot in the first half while taking eight first-half shots. The Valkyries doubled up the Tornado in second-half shooting 10-5. Eight of Converse's shots were on goal while King managed just three.

Senior Hayden Gensler netted the Valkyries' lone goal of the night in the 19th minute with an assist coming from fellow senior Gabriel Verona.

The Tornado tied the game just as far into the second half as the Valkyries scored in the first half. A free kick from the Tornado's forward was just out of Sanchez's reach as it narrowly stayed inside the corner of the net, forcing the 1-1 draw.

The Valkyries return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 24 as they make the return trip to King. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 P.M.
