SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team and the North Greenville men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon at Weisiger Stadium.
Converse improves to 8-1-2 overall this season and 5-0-1 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, the Trailblazers improve to 3-2-4 overall and 1-2-4 in Conference Carolinas play.
The Valkyries came out aggressive in the opening half of action and berated the Trailblazers goalie with a bevy of shots. In the early moments of the period it appeared that
Hayden Gensler had scored a goal for the Valkyries but the officials called it back. The Valkyries concluded the period outshooting North Greenville 7-3.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half of action,
Guilherme Fontes found
Mike Dean for the first goal of the game. For Dean it was his first goal of the season, while Fontes picked up his team leading ninth assist of the year.
The Valkyries offense continued to stay aggressive against the Trailblazers defense as they searched for their second goal of the match. Nearly 20 minutes had gone by before Valkyries goalkeeper Mate Sanchez fouled a North Greenville player in the box. Renan Macuglia converted on the ensuing penalty kick to tie the match at one.
In a late effort the Valkyries attempted numerous shots against North Greenville but they were unable to put one across the line. Converse ended the match outshooting North Greenville 10-3 in shots on goal. The match was also very chippy, as a total of six yellow cards were issued in the match.
Fontes, Dean and Gensler all finished with a trio of shots in the match against North Greenville.
Jaxon Keene finished close behind with a pair of shots on goal against the Trailblazers. Sanchez finished with a pair of saves in the draw.

The Converse men's soccer team will be back in action this Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium. The match against the King Tornado is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
