SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman Amro Shibeika found himself at the center of the largest group celebration of the season so far for the Converse University men's soccer team (8-1-1, 5-0 Conference Carolinas) as the fan-favorite midfielder netted his first career goal in the team's 2-0 victory over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (3-7-2, 2-6-1 Conference Carolinas) Wednesday night at Weisiger Stadium.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez notched his fourth solo shutout of the season. Converse outshot the Crusaders 13-9, 11-2 in shots on goal. Both of Belmont Abbey's shots on goal came in the first half.

Senior Nicholas Gartung netted the first goal of the game with a 24th minute goal off of an assist from fellow senior Jaxon Keene.

Amro's Army found cause to celebrate when a deflected shot bounced back to Shibeika who struck the ball straight into the back of the net, securing the 2-0 victory for the Valkyries. Converse swept the season series 2-0 as well.

The Valkyries are back on the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 19 as they host the North Greenville Trailblazers at Weisiger Stadium for a 4:30 P.M. kickoff.
