DUE WEST, S.C. – After resuming their season following an over-two-week hiatus on Thursday, the Converse University men's soccer team (7-1-1, 4-0 Conference Carolinas) defeated conference opponent Erskine (2-5, 2-4 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 4-0. It is the largest margin of victory of the season for the Valkyries and ties the team's highest goal output in 2024, Sept. 7 against North Georgia 4-1.

Converse held a 10-0 shot advantage in the first half but managed to score just one goal: a 17th minute boot from senior Hayden Gensler with an assist from fellow senior Nicholas Gartung.

In the second half, Converse again outshot the Flying Fleet by 10 in the second half, this time an 11-1 advantage. That one shot from the Fleet gave sophomore goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez his one save of the day en route to his third clean sheet of the season.

The Valkyries scored three times in the second half of the game, all of which came in a six-minute span from the 78th minute to the 84th minute. Junior Luis Fortuce kicked off that rapid-fire goal frenzy with an unassisted goal in the 78th minute.

Senior Johannes Haden netted a goal with an assist from team scoring leader Guilherme Fontes in the 79th minute. Fontes rounded out the scoring for the game with a goal of his own in the 84th minute with a familiar connection from senior Jaxon Keene. 

The Valkyries are back on the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 16 as they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at Weisiger Stadium for a 7:30 P.M. kickoff.
