SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse softball team was swept by Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon 4-2 (8 inn.) and 27-0 (5 inn.) at Tyger River Stadium. With the losses, the Valkyries drop to 13-29 overall and 4-14 in Conference Carolinas action, while the Patriots improve to 33-9 overall and 13-5 in Conference Carolinas play.
Game 1 Notes:
Bottom 1 –
Chesney Miles began the inning by reaching on an error by the third baseman, Miles then moved to second on a wild pitch and stole third base on the next pitch.
Victoria Dichio hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the first run of the game.
Top 5 – Karacson singled to the shortstop to start the inning and moved to second following a wild pitch. Karacson moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score the tying run on a sacrifice fly from Smallwood.
Top 8
th – Francis Marion scored a pair off a hard hit ball to left field.
Game 2 Notes:
In the second game Francis Marion outscored Converse 27-0 and out hit the Valkyries 26-2 in the process.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will hit the road this week for a midweek matchup against North Greenville on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
