SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse softball team was swept by Erskine on Wednesday afternoon 12-4 (6 inn.) and 11-0 (5 inn.) at Tyger River Stadium. With the losses, the Valkyries drop to 13-27 overall and 4-12 in Conference Carolinas action, while the Flying Fleet improve to 19-10 overall and 9-3 in Conference Carolinas play.
Game 1 Notes:
Top 2 – M. Ballard singled to center field and drove in K. Eagleman for the first run of the game.
Bottom 2 –
Victoria Dichio doubled to right centerfield and drove in
Makenna Hill to tie the game at 1-1.
Bottom 4 –
Maggie Griffis reached on a fielders choice and drove in
Abby Bardonaro to give the Valkyries their first lead of the game. Dichio kept the Valkyries rally going with an RBI groundout that scored
Madeline Modica.
Bottom 5-
Serrah Ballard roped an RBI single up the middle to score
Karleigh Crabill and give the Valkyries a 4-1 advantage.
Top 6 – Erskine scored 11 runs in the inning to run-rule the Valkyries.
Game 2 Notes:
In the second game Erskine scored 11 runs and shutout the Valkyries. Converse tallied five hits in the second game.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will remain at home this weekend to play Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon at 12 and 2 p.m. at Tyger River Stadium.
