Valkyries Vault Into Conference Carolinas Championship Semifinals Round

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team knocked off Lander University 267.660 – 254.010 in the quarterfinals round of the Conference Carolinas Championship series on Tuesday night inside the Weisiger Center.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
Converse opened up the meet with a 37.50 in the compulsory event. The Valkyries recorded a 9.150 in the acro heat, a 9.750 in the pyramid heat, a 9.650 in the toss heat and an 8.500 in the tumbling heat. Meanwhile, Lander finished with a 33.400 in the compulsory event. The Bearcats recorded a 7.400 in the acro heat, a 9.700 in the pyramid heat, an 8.950 in the toss heat and a 7.350 in the tumbling heat.  

Event 2 – Acro
In the five element heat of the acro event, the Bearcats got the better of the Valkyries with a score of 9.100, while Converse received a score of 8.000. In the six element heat the Bearcats earned a 9.200 and the Valkyries earned a 8.500. In the seven element heat of the event, the Bearcats earned a 9.000 to finish with a 27.300 in the acro event. Converse, meanwhile, picked up a 9.450 in the final heat to finish with a 25.950 in the acro event. After the opening two events, Converse held a slim 63.000 – 60.700 lead over Lander.

Event 3 – Pyramid
In the inversion heat of the pyramid event, the two squads tied with identical scores of 9.750. In the synchronized heat, the Bearcats got the better of the Valkyries with a score of 9.600, while the Valkyries recorded a score of 9.400. In the open heat of the event, Lander received a score of 9.850 and Converse earned a score of 9.750. Converse went into the halftime break holding a slight edge over Lander at 91.900 – 89.900.

Event 4 – Toss
In the Salto heat of the toss event, the Valkyries came out ready to go as they outscored Lander 9.350-8.950. In the synchronized heat, the Valkyries kept the pressure up as they outscored Lander 9.000-8.350. In the open heat of the event, Converse outscored Lander 9.300-9.150, overall the Valkyries outscored Lander 27.650-26.450 in the event. Heading into the tumbling event, Converse held a 119.550-116.350 lead over the Bearcats.

Event 5 – Tumbling
In the duo pass heat of the tumbling event, the Valkyries edged out the Bearcats 8.550-8.500. In the trio pass heat, Converse outscored Lander 8.650-7.400. In the quad pass and the aerial pass heats the Valkyries outscored Lander 8.250-7.600 and 9.750-9.525. In the six element pass heat, Converse outscored Lander 9.525-8.150. In the open pass heat of the event, Converse outscored Lander 9.475-8.925 giving the Valkyries an event win at 54.200-50.100. Going into the final event of the evening, Converse held a 173.750-166.450 advantage over the Bearcats.  

Event 6 – Team Event
In the final event of the night the Valkyries outscored the Bearcats 93.910-87.560.
 
Next Up:
Converse will advance to the Conference Carolinas Championships Semifinals round in Greenwood, S.C. on Saturday afternoon. The Valkyries will battle the No. 1 seeded Limestone Saints at 12:00 p.m.
