COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Converse University softball team split with Columbia College on Tuesday evening, winning game one 10-5 and dropping game two 2-1.
Records: Converse (9-11), Columbia College (7-9, 0-6 Appalachian Atlantic Conference)
Game 1 Notes:
- Top 1 – Chesney Miles started the game off by walking and then stealing second. She advanced to third on an error by the Koala catcher before scoring on a wild pitch.
- Top 3 – Katelynn Tuxbury singled to right field and stole second before advancing to third on a passed ball. She scored as Miles singled to shortstop.
- Bottom 3 – B. Franco got the first run on the scoreboard for Columbia College.
- Top 4 – Serrah Ballard hit a home run to open up the fourth inning, giving the Valkyries a 3-1 lead.
- Bottom 4 – The Koalas scored four runs during their turn at bat, getting a 5-3 lead over Converse.
- Top 5 – Miles singled and then stole second and third. She scored as Jaydin Gentile flew out into a double play that got Ayellad Howard out as well.
- Top 7 – Faith Hauser singled through the left side followed by Rylee Summers singling to right field. Madeline Modica then singled up the middle which allowed Hauser to move to third and Summers to move to second. AJ Albano then hit a single which allowed for both Hauser and Summers to be brought home to make it 6-4 in the Valkyries favor. Kayla Rocha got hit by a pitch and Tuxbury reached first on an error by the shortstop. She advanced to second on the throw as Rocha got to third and Albano scored. Karleigh Crabill followed with her own single that allowed Rocha to score the eighth run of the game. Miles then singled up the middle and advanced to second as Crabill went to third and Tuxbury scored. As Howard grounded out, Crabill put the 10th and final run up on the board for the Valkyries.
Miles led Converse with four at bats, two runs, three hits, two RBIs and four stolen bases. Albano recorded two RBIs during her one at bat while Tuxbury had two runs, one hit and one RBI across her three at bats. Ballard hit the only home run of the game while pitching 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Summers pitched 3.1 innings with one strikeout.
Game 2 Notes:
- Bottom 1 – The Koalas got out to an early 1-0 lead to open up game two.
- Bottom 2 – K. Bridgmon scored the second run for the Koalas as D. Smith singled to left field.
- Top 3 – Miles walked and scored as Howard singled to right field.
Miles led with one run and one hit across three at bats while Howard recorded three at bats, one hit and one RBI. Summers pitched 1.2 innings while Ballard pitched 4.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Next Up:
Converse will host Limestone University on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
