WINGATE, N.C. – The Converse University softball team was swept by No. 18 Wingate on Wednesday afternoon 9-1 and 8-0. The Valkyries fall to 9-13 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 26-7 overall.
Game 1 Notes:
- Bottom 1 – Wingate put three unearned runs up on the board as Converse recorded three errors.
- Top 3 – Chesney Miles reached on a throwing error by the Bulldogs' third baseman and advanced to second on the throw. Miles scored the solo run of the day as Karleigh Crabill singled to center field.
- Bottom 4 – The Bulldogs were able to put two more runs on the board to get a 5-1 lead on the Valkyries.
- Bottom 5 – K. Hobgood scored a run after she got on base by singling to left field.
- Bottom 6 – Two more runs were scored by Wingate before Hobgood scored the ninth and final run of the game.
Crabill led Converse in hits (2) and RBIs (1) while Miles led in runs (1).
Serrah Ballard pitched 5.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Game 2 Notes:
- Bottom 2 – Wingate scored back-to-back runs to go up 2-0 on Converse.
- Bottom 3 – The Bulldogs added four more runs to their score for a 6-0 advantage.
- Bottom 4 – Hobgood scored the seventh run for Wingate.
- Bottom 5 – H. Scott was brought home as S. Lampley singled to right field, giving the Bulldogs an 8-0 win and a sweep over the Valkyries.
No hits were recorded for Converse and
Rylee Summers pitched 4.2 innings.
Next Up:
The Valkyries will start Conference Carolinas action on Saturday as they host King University. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
