Converse Acrobatics and Tumbling Picks up Two Conference Carolinas Wins

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Converse University acrobatics and tumbling team knocked off Chowan and Lander in Saturday's tri-meet. The Valkyries scored a 257.135 while the Bearcats captured 252.655 points and the Hawks fell to both teams with 59.750 points. Converse is 2-2 overall and 2-2 in conference standings, Lander is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference and Chowan is 0-4 overall and in conference standings.
 
Event 1 – Compulsory
The Valkyries stumbled in the first heat of the first event, only scoring a 5.40. This allowed Lander to get the early 36.60 overall lead compared to Converse's 33.05 and Chowan's 11.75.

Event 2 – Acro
Converse scored a 9.40/10 in the 7-element heat to add 25.90 points to their total. Lander had a highlight score of 9.55/10 in the 5-element heat which helped them to gain 27.10 points. Chowan was only able to score 9.05/23.90 points in the event.

Event 3 – Pyramid
The Valkyries bounced back in this event, outscoring Lander in the inversion and open heats and outscoring Chowan in all three heats. The Valkyries captured the event win with a total of 29.45 points while Lander had 28.05 points and Chowan had zero points. Going into halftime, the Bearcats led with a 91.75, the Valkyries followed with 88.40 points and the Hawks trailed with 20.80 points.

Event 4 – Toss
Converse had high scores of 8.15/9.40 and 8.85/9.40 in the synchronized and open heats, getting the event win with an overall score of 25.45. Lander followed closely behind with 25.15 points.

Event 5 – Tumbling
Ceanna Brown's open pass highlighted the tumbling event as she scored a 9.65/10 in the heat to help the Valkyries pick up another event win with 51.025 points. Lander scored a 46.675 while Chowan scored a 20.500.

Event 6 – Team
With a start value of 100.46, Converse scored a season high 92.26 to win the meet with a final score of 257.135. Lander scored an 89.08/110.69 in the event to finish the meet with 252.655 overall points. Chowan had a final score of 59.750.
 
Next Up:
The Valkyries will host King and Coker for a tri-meet on Sunday, March 26.
