LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Converse University softball team picked up wins four and five at St. Andrews University on Tuesday afternoon with 8-0 and 10-4 victories over the Knights. Converse moves to 5-1 on the season while St. Andrews falls to 0-2.
Game 1 Final: Converse 8-0 St. Andrews (5 Inn.)

Game 1 Notes:
- Top 1 – Ayellad Howard started off the game with a walk and then advanced to second as Katelynn Tuxbury got hit by a pitch. Howard and Tuxbury then stole third and second, respectively. As Jaydin Gentile singled to center field, Howard scored. Grace McKinney then singled to right field which allowed Tuxbury to go to third base and Gentile to move to second base. Makenna Hill was then hit by a pitch which allowed Tuxbury to score run No. 2 for Converse. Hill, McKinney and Gentile then each advanced a base, Gentile scoring, as there was a passed ball. McKinney scored as Rylee Summers flew out to right field and Hill then stole home to make it a 5-0 game in the Valkyries favor.
- Top 2 – Gentile was able to score the sixth run of the game as Chesney Miles flew out to left field followed by Hill and McKinney both scoring as Summers reached first on an error by the St. Andrews second baseman.
Game 2 Notes:
- Top 2 – As Hill flew out to center field, Abby Bardonaro scored the first run of the game for Converse.
- Bottom 2 – The Knights then went up 3-1 on the Valkyries as they scored back-to-back-to-back runs.
- Top 3 – Victoria Dichio hit a double to left field followed by Howard singling as Dichio advanced to third. Dichio and Howard both scored as Ryan Finazzo reached first on an error by the St. Andrews pitcher. Finazzo scored the fourth Valkyrie run as McKinney singled to center field.
- Bottom 3 – St. Andrews tied the ballgame up at four runs each.
- Top 4 – The Valkyries secured their win in the top of the fourth inning as runs five through 10 were scored. Ingle, Faith Hauser, Tuxbury, Dichio, Howard and Finazzo all crossed home plate for Converse.
Gentile and McKinney each recorded two runs in game one to lead the Valkyries while Summers had three RBIs while picking up her first win in the circle. Howard, Finazzo and Dichio each had two runs in game two while Finazzo led the Valkyries with 2 RBIs.
Serrah Ballard pitched two innings with two strikeouts while Ingle finished out the remaining three innings.

Converse will play Tuskegee University and Columbus State University on Sunday, February 12 at the Columbus State Tournament.
