MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Converse University softball team was unsuccessful in their efforts at the Bobcat Battle this weekend, dropping two games to the Georgia College Bobcats by scores of 7-1 and 9-0 and two games to the Mars Hill Lions by scores of 8-1 and 3-0. The four losses drop the Valkyries to 5-9 overall.
Game 1 Final: Georgia College 7-1 Converse
Game 2 Final: Mars Hill 8-1 Converse
Game 3 Final: Mars Hill 3-0 Converse
Game 4 Final: Georgia College 9-0 Converse (5 Inn.)
Records: Georgia College (10-3), Mars Hill (5-6), Converse (5-9)
Game 1 Notes:
- Bottom 2 – Georgia College put three runs up on the board to finish out the second inning.
- Bottom 3 – The Bobcats were able to add two more runs to their score as two players scored on an error by the Converse second baseman.
- Bottom 5 – Another Georgia College run was scored as a single was hit to center field.
- Top 6 – Chesney Miles walked and then scored as Victoria Dichio doubled to center field, getting the Valkyries one run on the board.
- Bottom 6 – One final run was added to the Bobcats score, ending the game 7-1 in their favor.
Dichio led Converse in game one, recording one hit and one RBI while pitching all six innings with four strikeouts.
Karleigh Crabill followed with two hits.
Game 2 Notes:
- Top 1 – Mars Hill put up one run to open up the game as a double was hit to center field.
- Top 3 – The Lions were able to add two more runs to their score as a single was hit to left field. Another run was then scored to make it a 4-0 game because of an error by the Converse catcher.
- Top 5 – Mars Hill added a run to the board as a home run was hit to open up the fifth inning. A double was later hit that allowed three Lions to score for an 8-0 lead over the Valkyries.
- Bottom 5 – Serrah Ballard reached first on an error by the left fielder which allowed her to reach second. Ayellad Howard got on base on a fielder's choice which allowed Ballard to score a run for Converse.
AJ Albano led the Valkyries in game two with two hits while Ayellad had one RBI. Ballard pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts,
Emily Ingle pitched 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and Dichio pitched 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.
Game 3 Notes:
- Bottom 2 – A Mars Hill Lion singled to center field which allowed two runners to score for a 2-0 advantage over Converse.
- Bottom 6 – Mars Hill tripled which allowed the runner on first to score.
Howard led Converse with two hits while Dichio, Albano and
Ryan Finazzo each had one hit. Dichio pitched the whole game while recording seven strikeouts.
Game 4 Notes:
- Bottom 1 – Georgia College was able to put up back-to-back runs to get an early 2-0 lead over Converse.
- Bottom 3 – A double hit to left field allowed a Bobcat to score.
- Bottom 4 – A double hit off of Belle Roper allowed two more runs to be added to Georgia College's score. Ballard then came in to pitch for Roper, giving up four runs as Bobcat homered with bases loaded.
Dichio had two hits in game four while Albano and Howard each had one hit. Roper pitched 3.1 innings with one strikeout.

Converse softball will be back at home on Saturday, February 25 to host Wesleyan College in a non-conference doubleheaders series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
