SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off of two regionally-ranked wins, the Converse University women's soccer (3-5-2, 1-5-1 Conference Carolinas) fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions (5-3-3, 4-2 Conference Carolinas) 3-2 when their final-minute push fell just short of producing the equalizing goal.

The Mountain Lions took three more shots than the Valkyries, 20-17, but took only one more shot on goal than Converse, 10-9. Freshman goalkeeper Allie Nepomuceno recorded seven saves in the match. Senior defender Brooklyn Galler recorded both of the Valkyries' goals.

After Young Harris scored the first goal of the game, the Valkyries responded 20 minutes later with the equalizing goal off the foot of Galler. The Mountain Lions went on the attack again and attempted two more shots on goal, both of which were saved by Nepomuceno. The teams entered the break even at  1-1.

Young Harris retook the lead just under 15 minutes into the second half and added another goal just five minutes later.

Galler cut the lead in half with her second goal of the night. With new life, the Valkyries made a push over the next 20 minutes to find the equalizing goal, including dominating the pace of the game over the final five minutes.

Unfortunately for the Valkyries, their efforts fell short and the Mountain Lions took the match 3-2.

The Valkyries are back on the pitch for the final game of their three-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they host Lees-McRae at 4:30 p.m.
