Men’s Soccer Falls On Tuesday Night to Young Harris

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite outshooting their opponents 21-7, the Converse University men's soccer team (5-3-1, 3-2-1 Conference Carolinas) fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions (6-2-2, 5-0-1) 2-0 Tuesday night at Weisiger Stadium.

Junior forward Hayden Gensler led the team in shots on goal with three. He took five total shots.

The Mountain Lions opened the game with a goal just under seven minutes in. Despite then taking eight shots, two of which were on goal, through the rest of the half, Converse entered the break down 1-0.

Then seven minutes into the second half, a Mountain Lion's forward shot the ball from the middle-field circle and found the back of the net to double Young Harris's lead.

With the two-goal lead, Young Harris allowed Converse to dominate possession for the remaining 30 minutes of the match, including 13 second-half Converse shots. Despite controlling the pace of play, the Valkyries were unable to find the back of the net and fell 2-0.

The Valkyries are back on the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 7 as they host Lees-McRae for the final game of their three-game home stand. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
