Men’s Soccer Claims First-Ever Conference Carolinas Northwest Division Title Outright With Victory Over Lees-McRae

Banner Elk, N.C. – Behind two goals scored inside of ten minutes to play, the Converse University men's soccer team (8-4-3, 6-2-3 Conference Carolinas) has won the first-ever Conference Carolinas Northwest division title outright with a 2-0 victory over the Lees-McRae Bobcats. The Valkyries clinched at least a share of the title last Tuesday, Oct. 14 when they drew with Belmont Abbey 0-0.

Junior midfielder Sinan Kilincarslan scored the first goal of the match in the 84th minute of the match and junior forward Johannes Haden doubled the lead when sophomore forward Guilherme Fontes assisted on an 88th minute goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez played all 90 minutes in the box. The Valkyries defense held the Bobcats to just one shot on goal all night, which Sanchez saved. Converse took 11 shots on goal, six in the first half and five in the second half.

The Valkyries wrap up regular season play Saturday as they travel to Central, South Carolina to take on Southern Wesleyan. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
