Converse Men’s Soccer Draws with Mount Olive on Senior Day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite doubling their attempts at scoring goals, the Converse University men's soccer team (7-4-3, 5-2-3 Conference Carolinas) settled for one point in the standings with a 0-0 draw with the Mount Olive Trojans (2-7-4, 2-5-3 Conference Carolinas).

While Mount Olive took one more shot compared to the Valkyries, 13-12, Converse doubled the Trojans' shots on goal, 4-2. Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Baerwalde and freshman goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez each played one half of the game and each recorded a save. They combined for a shutout.

While the team's went back and forth in the first half, neither was able to find control and the team's entered the break even.

After Mount Olive took a majority of the shots to open the second half, Converse dominated possession in the final 18 minutes of the match and did not allow Mount Olive another shot past that point.

Despite that commanding lead in time of possession down the stretch, the team was unable to score a goal and settle for the 0-0 draw.

The Valkyries end the season with two games on the road. They first travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina to take on Lees-McRae on Tuesday, Oct. 24 before heading to Central to face the Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 28.
