SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second consecutive year, the Converse University Overwatch team advanced to the round of 32 in the Overwatch Collegiate Homecoming tournament. When the tournament began in early September, there were 341 teams looking to secure the $25,000 top prize. Now the Valkyries join the top 9% of teams that can make that dream a reality.

The preliminary rounds consisted of best-of-five matches rotated between ten of the game's maps. Much like volleyball, a team must win three sets, or maps, to secure the match.

The team posted a 7-2 record in the preliminary rounds. They opened play with a three-match win streak in which they did not drop a single map. The Valkyries suffered their first defeat after a hard-fought battle with Bellevue.

The Valkyries returned to form with a two-match win streak before suffering their second and final loss of the preliminary rounds to Northwood.

Following the loss, Converse secured two more sweeps before needing all five rounds to defeat the University of St. Thomas. The team is set to battle the University of Washington on Friday, Oct. 20 in round of 32.
