Three-Goal Outburst Pushes Women’s Soccer Past Division-Leading King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Tying their highest offensive output of the season, the Converse University women's soccer team (4-5-3, 2-4-2 Conference Carolinas) defeated the division-leading King Tornado (4-8-1, 3-5 Conference Carolinas) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Kiersten Schrawyer scored the first goal of the match for the Valkyries and junior forward Ellie Gore scored the two insurance goals.

After a relatively even first half in terms of shots, 6-4, the Valkyries dominated possession and doubled-up the shots taken by the Tornado, 10-5. Despite letting it fly 14 times during the course of the 90-minute match, Converse found the back of the net three times on just four shots on goal.

Converse got off to a strong start when Schrawyer, assisted by sophomore midfielder Jasmine Hernandez, netted the team's first goal just before the 10-minute.

Despite their best efforts, the Valkyries took just the one-goal lead into the break.

After 20 minutes of the second half, Gore netted her second goal of the season with an assist from freshman forward Drey Nesbitt. Just under 20 minutes after that, she scored the Valkyries' third and final goal of the match after a shot was deflected by the King keeper.

The Valkyries are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 17 as they head to Belmont, North Carolina to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 4:30 p.m.
