GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas office released its acrobatics & tumbling preseason poll on Monday morning which saw Converse being picked to finish second in the league.
The Limestone Saints, reigning Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champions, earned the first-place spot in the poll with a total of 64 points and eight first place votes. Converse, the 2022 runner-up, earned a total of 53 points with Belmont Abbey rounding out the top three with 46 points.
Coker and King tied for fourth in the poll (42) with the Cobras claiming a first-place vote. Lander was picked to finish sixth with 32 points followed by Emmanuel (19), Mars Hill (18) and Chowan (8).
The Valkyries had three players named to the watch list which was highlighted by
Ayanna Manning. Manning, a sophomore base/tumbler from Abingdon, Md., had a standout freshman season. She was a 2x NCATA Freshman of the Week, Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month, Conference Carolinas First Team All-Conference, NCATA Freshman of the Year and a member of the 2022 NCATA Academic Honor Roll.
Chloe Cleland and
Josie McDevitt were also named to the watch list. McDevitt, a senior base from Maryville, Tenn., was named to the 2022 NCATA All-Academic Team, NCATA Academic Honor Roll and was on the 2021 Converse acrobatics & tumbling team that was named Conference Carolinas Champions. Cleland, a sophomore base/tumbler from Medina, Ohio was also named to the NCATA Academic Honor Roll along with Manning and McDevitt.
The Valkyries season begins on February 18 with a home meet against Belmont Abbey at 3:00 p.m. The Conference Carolinas championship is slated for April 11, 15-16 with the NCATA National Champions held on April 27-29.
