The Series
This will be the first time that Converse University and Caldwell University have met in program history, first game of the 2022 season for each team and the home opener for the Valkyries.
Converse Notes:
- Ellie Gore, Serena-Skye White and Kajsa Mertens were named Preseason Players to Watch by Conference Carolinas.
- The Valkyries ended the 2021 season 3-12-2.
- Last season, Gore played in 14 games and started in 12 games for 915 minutes, recording one goal and two assists. As a midfielder, White played in 17 games and started in four games, playing for 508 minutes and taking three shots. Mertens started and played in 13 games as a defender for a total of 1194 minutes.
- Sophomore Kiersten Schrawyer is the returning leading points scorer, tallying five points in the 2021 season.
- Daelynn Perry will start in net for the Valkyries this season. Perry played in all 17 games last season, saving 87 shots that came her way.
- Head coach Scott Fogarty has a young team this year with 11 freshmen on the roster.
Caldwell Notes:
- Caldwell University ended last season 7-10-1.
- The Cougars averaged 1.50 goals per game and 10.3 shots per game in 2021.
- Sarah Costanza returns for her senior season at Caldwell as their leading scorer, having eight goals, two assists and 18 points in the 2021 season. Costanza started and played in 16 games for 1048 minutes.
- Nicole Alfano, also returning for her senior season, followed Costanza, playing in 18 games and starting in nine games last season. Alfano recorded three goals, two assists and eight points while playing for a total of 743 minutes during her junior year.
- Head coach Nate Guagliardi has an experienced team on his hands with 22 upperclassmen on his roster.
