Valkyries Make it a Close One Against Montevallo on Day 2 of Columbus State Tournament

COLUMBUS, GA – After losing 11-3 to Montevallo on Friday morning, the Valkyries made a defensive comeback in game two against the Falcons, only allowing three runs to be scored. In game two of the day, Converse fell 6-1 to the Union Bulldogs.

Game 1 Notes:
  • Bottom 2 – Going into the bottom of the inning, Converse was down 1-0 against Montevallo. Serrah Ballard would get things going for the Valkyries, hitting a single to the third baseman. Reagan Owens would single her bunt, advancing Ballard to second. Brooke Scruggs would be the next Valkyrie to make it on base for Converse on a fielder's choice. This fielder's choice resulted in Ballard getting out at third but Owens making it to second. Brooklyn McElrath doubled to left field allowing both Scruggs and Owens to get runs on the board for Converse. Going into the third inning, the Valkyries had a 2-1 lead.
  • Top 6 – A throwing error by the Valkyries would allow for the Falcons to score their third and final run of the game, picking up the win.
  • Owens (0-3) was given the loss after pitching two innings. Ballard (0-2) also pitched five innings during the loss.
Game 2 Notes:
  • Top 6 – Serrah Ballard would be walked to start the top of the inning off. Brooke Scruggs sacrifice bunt would result in her being out but advancing Ballard to second. Ballard would advance to third off a wild pitch to Faith Hauser and eventually score off of Hauser's single to right field.
  • The Valkyries were unable to do anymore work, falling 6-1 to the Union Bulldogs.
  • Ballard (0-3) would be given the loss after pitching 5.2 innings and producing two strikeouts. Owens also pitched 0.2 innings with one strikeout.
