HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 6 Converse University field hockey team got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 road win over Coker.
For the first time in program history the Valkyries have a three-game winning streak against Coker and they also sweep the season series for the first time. The win was also the Valkyries first ever win in Hartsville.
For the second consecutive day the Valkyries conceded the first goal of the game and trailed 1-0 after the opening quarter. Sophomore midfielder
Luisa Fasold scored a pair of goals in the period to give the Valkyries the lead going into the halftime break. For Fasold they were her first goals of the 2022 season as the Converse outshot Coker 7-0 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter
Catalina Pistaccio found
Caroline Blair for a 3-1 advantage over the Cobras. Later in the period Payton Baronella scored the Cobras second goal of the afternoon to bring Coker within striking distance of Converse. In the final minute of the game
Lotte Kanters picked up her 20
th goal of the season off a penalty stroke.
Converse outshot Coker 24-4 and 19-3 in shots on goal. The Valkyries also recorded nine penalty corners in the match.
