GAFFNEY, S.C. – For the first time in school history the Converse University field hockey team defeated Limestone and toppled a top-10 school in the process with a 3-1 victory over the Saints on Wednesday night at Saints Field.
Following a tightly contested first quarter of action the Valkyries struck first in the second quarter of play. Coming off a penalty corner
Mira Polzer passed the ball to
Teana Maloney who scored her second goal of the season. Following the goal, the Valkyries held all the momentum in the contest and held onto it during the halftime break.
In the third quarter the Valkyries came out swinging and
Mira Polzer found
Lotte Kanters for the second goal of the night in the 31
st minute. Four minutes later and Kanters scored her second goal of the night. In the 49
th minute of action Riley DeGrace scored the lone goal for the Saints. As the clock ticked to zero the Valkyries bench rushed the field in celebration.
First Half Stats:
- 19th minute, Mira Polzer passes to Teana Maloney for her second goal of the season.
- Converse outshot Limestone 3-2 in the opening half of play and each team recorded a save in the first half.
- Limestone attempted four corners in the first half of play, while Converse committed 27 fouls in the first half.
Second Half Stats:
- 31st minute, Lotte Kanters scores off a Mira Polzer pass.
- 35th minute, Kanters scores her second goal of the night and the Valkyries held a 3-0 advantage.
- 36th minute, Annemijn Winters receives a green card
- 38th minute, Bo Linders receives a green card from the official.
- 49th minute, Aaliyah James receives a yellow card for Limestone.
- 49th minute, Kelly Diplock found Riley DeGrace for the Saints only goal of the night.

The Valkyries will play a pair of games this weekend when they travel to Newberry on Saturday afternoon. The next home game for Converse will be on Sunday afternoon at McCraken Field.
