Another Overtime Stalemate for the Valkyries

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's soccer team and the Emory & Henry Wasps battled to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night at McCracken Field.
 
In the opening half of play it was a battle of field position between the two squads. Converse (0-3-2) led the period with three total shots on goal and two shots on target. Emory & Henry (3-0-1) managed just a single shot in the opening half of action.
 
In the second half the Valkyries stepped up their pressure on the offensive end and recorded seven total shots. The Wasps, however, broke through first with a penalty goal in the 74th minutes of action. Moments later Ellie Gore scored on a pass by Kiersten Schrawyer to tie the game at one. Not much happened in the overtime periods between the two squads as the match ended in a tie.
 
Schrawyer led the team with three total shots and two shots on goal. Shaylah Youngdale added a pair of shots on goal for the Valkyries offense. Grace Williams led the Wasps offense with a trio of shots on goal. Daelynn Perry saw the most action for the Valkyries as she recorded a trio of saves in 64 minutes of action. Natalie Capone played all 110 minutes in goal for the Wasps and recorded five saves on the night.

First Half Notes:
  • Converse outshot Emory & Henry 3-1 in the opening period.
  • Emory & Henry recorded a pair of saves in the half and Converse attempted one corner kick.
  • Emory & Henry was more aggressive in the first half with 5 fouls and Converse committed three in the opening stanza.  
Second Half Notes:
  • 74th minute, Grace Williams scores on a penalty kick
  • 77th minute, Ellie Gore scores off an assist by Kiersten Schrawyer.
  • Converse outshot Emory & Henry 7-4 in the second half and each side recorded a trio of goals.
  • Converse attempted four corner kicks in the period and committed four fouls against Emory & Henry. The Wasps attempted a pair of corners and committed a trio of fouls in the second half.

Converse will host Chowan University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
