Valkyries and Cobras Fight to a Stalemate in Double Overtime

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University women's soccer team and the Coker Cobras played to a 1-1 tie on Saturday night at the Coker Athletic Fields.
 
Coker (0-0-2) struck first in the opening half of play with a score by Abbie Boling in the 26th minute of the game. Converse (0-3-1) did not take long to respond as senior Kaitlin Dansie (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored her second goal of the season in the 33rd minute of the game.
 
Kiersten Schrawyer led the Converse offense with a pair of shots on goal in the match. Dansie, Stephanie Cumez, Taylor Sage and Ashlee Clark all tied for the team lead with two total shots on the night. Goalies Cassidy Hall and Daelynn Perry split time in the goal once again and Perry came away three saves on the night to lead the team.
 
For Coker Gabby Sturla led the offense with three total shots on the night. A quartet of Cobras attempted at least one shot on goal. Katie Moore made eight saves in goal for Coker on Saturday night.

First Half Notes:
  • 26th minute, Abbie Boling scores for Coker on an assist by Navia Mosley.
  • 33rd minute, Kaitlin Dansie scores the equalizer for Converse.
  • Converse outshot Coker 9-5 in the opening half of action.
  • Coker recorded more saves 4-0 and corner kicks 2-0 than Converse.
  • Fouls were even at 5-5 between the two programs.
Second Half Notes:
  • 84th minute, Dylan Smith was yellow carded for Coker.
  • Coker outshot Converse 5-4 in the second half and 4-1 during the overtime period.
  • Corner kicks were even between the two schools with one each.
  • Coker appeared to be the more aggressive team as they committed 10 fouls in the second half and overtime periods.
Next Up:
Converse will host Emory & Henry College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon for their home opener.
