Belmont, NC- Converse dropped two Conference Carolinas games this afternoon to the hands of Belmont Abbey. Converse received rather strong pitching performances in each of the games but defensive miscues proved to be the deciding factor.
Game 1: Julianne Outlaw hit a 2-RBI double in the top of the 1st to open the scoring for either team but the Crusaders would knot things up in the bottom of the inning. The wheels would begin to come off in the bottom of the 2nd and ensued into the 3rd inning as Belmont Abbey struck for 7 runs across two innings blowing the game open. The Valkyries committed 4 errors in total which would propel the Crusaders into their lead. Converse never got their traction at the plate following the 1st inning and eventually fell in game 1, 13-4.
Game 2: A pitching duel broke out in game 2 as Allannah Browne and
Jordan Moore took the mound for their respective sides. Converse would once again strike first in the top of the 1st inning as
Julianne Outlaw would get the visiting side on the board. Belmont Abbey would trail going into the bottom of the 2nd before scoring 2 unearned runs off of Converse mishaps. The pitchers for each side would take over from here combining for just 13 hits allowed and stranding 11 on base throughout the game. Unfortunately for Moore, the Valkyries were not able to reward her efforts on the mound as the 2-1 deficit would stand for the remainder of the game.
On Deck: Converse will return home for their final home stand of the year this weekend when they face King University at Tyger River Park. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 1:00 Saturday.
