Box Score Banner Elk, NC- The Converse Women's Soccer team knew this match would take a gritty performance from them as they took on league leading Lees Mcrae on Sunday and a gritty performance is what they put out there. Led by 7 saves by
Darian Bankston, the Valkyries fought until the very end. A goal by Pali Smith of Lees Mcrae one minute after intermission proved to be the deciding one in this game as the Bobcats would go on to win 1-0.
Jordan Brooks, Izzy Fangman, Serena White and
Nina Miguel each produced shots on goal but were unable to beat the Bobcats keeper Hope Sanborn who was solid on the day with 5 saves. The momentum of a strong performance can be carried forward after contending with the best of the league and the Valkyries will look to do just that. Their return to the pitch will come this Thursday when they travel to Columbia to take on Columbia International University with kickoff slated for 6:00 PM.
