Spartanburg, SC- The Valkyrie Softball Team salvaged a split with the Chowan Hawks today after dropping Game 1. The games were stark in contrast as Chowan largely domianted Game 1 before Game 2 saw Converse get hot at the plate to take the win.
Game 1 Recap:
Chowan got an outstanding showing from Megan Vincent as she struck out 10 and only gave up 3 hits as the Hawks cruised to an 8-0 win. The Hawks accumulated 9 hits and got 3 RBI's from Serena Riley as they found success against the Valkyrie pitching staff. Converse was unable to answer at the plate as they were stalled by the dominant Vincent who only allowed 5 baserunners all game.
Game 2 Recap:
Reagan Owens went 6.2 innings only allowing 4 runs and Converse put together a 5 run 4th inning that would end up being the deciding part of the game.
Moriah Gomez got the 4th inning started with a 2 RBI single and
Ryan Finazzo powered a 3 run homerun to make the score 7-2 at end of the 4th and inject life into the Valkyries. They would go on to win the second game 7-4 and carry some momentum into this weeks slate of games.
Converse will take the field again Tuesday when they host Erskine for a doubleheader. First game is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
