SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team defeated Emmanuel College 3-0 on Wednesday night in front of packed house at Fulp Field.
Converse (7-8-2, 3-6-1 CC) ends their home slate of schedules with a 5-3-0 record. Wednesday night's marked the sixth time this season the Valkyries have scored at least three goals in a game.
In the first 15 minutes of the contest each side took turns possessing the ball and making deep runs into their opponents attacking third. Then in the 16
th minute Tim Boeckstanes was taken down hard inside the box.
Gero Wolters took the ensuing penalty kick and the Valkyries were on the board first against the Lions.
A flurry of yellow cards were handed out in the final moments of the first half with Converse receiving two and Emmanuel earning the other. The two teams were even with three shots a piece in the opening frame as Converse took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Both sides continued to be aggressive in the second half and it was Converse who struck again the 58
th minute.
Jaxon Keene found
Nicholas Gartung for his second goal of the season and the Valkyries second goal of the night. A few moments later and Keene scored on a one-on-one opportunity against the goalie to give the Valkyries a 3-0 lead.
The Valkyries spread around the shots on Wednesday evening with seven different players making attempts.
David Windmiller made three saves and produced his fourth clean sheet of the season against Emmanuel.

Converse will travel to Barton College on Saturday afternoon for their final regular season game of the 2021 season. Kickoff is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
