BELMONT, N.C. – The Converse University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday night at Belmont Abbey.
Shelby McCutcheon scored the first goal of the game just six minutes into the contest. The goal allowed the Valkyries to focus on defense as they shutout the Crusaders in the opening half of play. Despite being outshot 5-3 in the opening period, Valkyries goalie
Daelynn Perry did not have to make a save attempt.
In the second half the Valkyries back line had to withstand a dozen shots by the Crusaders offense. In the 62
nd minute of the contest, Belmont Abbey tied the game with a goal by Corrine Shovlain. Despite the Valkyries best efforts the match remained tied through the end of regulation. Just two minutes into the overtime period and Logan Parry scored the game-winner for Belmont Abbey.
Four different Valkyries attempted shots on the night, while Perry made five saves in the match.
Next Up:
Converse will host Mount Olive this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The senior day festivities will start at 1:00 p.m. for the Valkyries.
