BELMONT, N.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey.
For Converse (6-7-2, 2-5-1 CC) this is their first draw since a September 15
th tie against Catawba College. The Valkyries are now unbeaten in their last four matches which sets a school record for most consecutive games without a negative result.
In just the 8
th minute of the contest,
Nicholas Gartung (Lexington, S.C.) scored his first career goal to put the Valkyries on top. For the remainder of the half the two squads battled it out for possession but each team held the other side to under 10 shots in the opening half. Then in the 44
th minute Sander Herlofsen found Hallvard Boehn for the game tying goal.
In the second half the Crusaders appeared to control the ball more with 10 shots, but the Valkyries defense held strong against the bombardment of shots. Neither team scored in the final 65 minutes of action, despite numerous opportunities by both sides.
Gartung led the Valkyries offense with four total shots on goal and a goal scored in 98 minutes of game action.

Jaxon Keene and Time Boeckstaens all took a pair of shots in the contest.
David Windmiller played all 110 minutes in the goal for the Valkyries and made five saves on the evening.

Converse will be back at home this Saturday to play Mount Olive at 4:00 p.m.
