SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team broke a pair of school records on Thursday evening as they defeated Johnson & Wales 6-2 at McCracken Field.
Converse (5-7-1, 2-5-0 CC) set the school record for goals in a match with six scores on the night. The Valkyries also set the school record for fastest goal as
Jaxon Keene scored off a Tobias Brucher pass just 1:12 into the game. Just over a minute later and
Tim Boeckstaens scored the second goal of the game, it was the fastest the Valkyries had ever scored a pair of goals in a match.
In the 27
th minute of action
Maurice Niklos scored and a minute later
Gero Wolters scored the fourth goal of the half. The Valkyries outshot the Wildcats 13-3 in the opening period of action and took a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half
Gero Wolters scored off a free kick in the 49
th minute of action. A few moments later
Ryan Zupa found
Hayden Gensler for the sixth goal of the night. For Gensler he now has a team high seven goals this season. Brandon Greene broke up the Valkyries shutout with a pair of goals in the 70
th and 84
th minute of game time.
Wolters led the Valkyries offense with a pair of goals on the night and he tied for the team lead in total shots with three on the night. Wolters is now the third Valkyrie men's soccer player to have a multi-goal outing.
Fabio Pasini tied for the team lead in total shots (3) and led the team with a trio of shots on goal.
David Windmiller played 54 minutes in goal for the Valkyries and did not allow a goal in the match.
Matt Hazenberg saw his first action of the season in the net for the Valkyries and made one save in the match.

Converse will have a day off between games before they host USC Aiken on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
