SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's soccer team defeated King 3-0 on Tuesday evening at McCracken Field, the shutout was the Valkyries first of the 2021 fall season.
Converse got off to a hot start in the opening period of play as they outshot King 7-3 in the opening period. In the 16
th minute of action freshman Rowan Deuble found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. The Valkyries hot start never cooled as they continued to pressure the Tornado back line.
Then in the 32
nd minute of action the Valkyries were awarded a penalty kick.
Olivia Brooks scored her first penalty kick of the season and Converse held a 2-0 advantage. The Valkyries took their 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
In the second period of action the Valkyries did not take long to strike. Senior
Shaylah Youngdale scored in the 53
rd minute to give Converse a 3-0 lead. The Valkyries survived a few scares in the second period but they held on for their first clean sheet of the season.

Ashlee Clark and
Nicole Gillis tied for the team lead in total shots, with a pair of shots on the night. Freshman goalkeeper
Daelynn Perry played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded six saves on her way to her first career clean sheet.
Next Up:
Converse will have over a week off before they travel to Belmont Abbey next week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
