Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Surge Propels Valkyries to Victory Over Tornado

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's soccer team defeated King University 2-0 on Tuesday night at McCracken Field.

The Valkyries shot early and often against the King defense, Converse recorded 11 shots in the opening half of play. In the 15th minute of the contest Shomari Boxley of King was red carded following a hard tackle on a Valkyrie player. Despite playing with a man down the final 30-minutes of action in the opening period, the Valkyries and Tornado went into the halftime break scoreless.

Less than 10-minutes into the second half, Converse defender Gero Wolters picked up a yellow card. The card did not phase the Valkyries as they continued to be aggressive on the offensive side of the ball. In the 64th minute of the game, freshman Hayden Gensler broke free and scored the games opening goal. For Gensler it was his team leading sixth goal of the season.

Note even a full minute later Jaxon Keene found Fabio Pasini for the second goal of the night. For Pasini it is his fifth goal of the season. Following a card in the 83rd minute by King's Ben Lynch, the Valkyries held on for the shutout win. For Converse it is their third clean sheet of the season and the first since a 4-0 victory over Bob Jones on September 11th.

Gero Wolters and Hayden Gensler led the Valkyries offense on Tuesday night. Wolters finished with five total shots and four shots on goal, while Gensler added five total shots and a trio of shots on goal. David Windmiller played all 90 minutes in goal for the Valkyries and made just one save to preserve the shutout.
