MARS HILL, N.C.- Converse soccer was unable to find the back of the net in the final 65 minutes of action as the Valkyries and Mars Hill drew 2-2 in double overtime on the road in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

Converse (1-1-1) was outshot by Mars Hill (0-2-1) 18-13 with the Lions posting 11 shots on frame.  Valkyries' netminder Josee Waitrovich (Waupaca, Wisc.) collected nine saves in the contest.

The Purple and Gold struck first in the contest in the 13' as Hallie Lycans (Hendersonville, Tenn.) found the back of the net off the assist from Natalie Gilmore (Valencia, Calif.).  Lycans received the pass on the right side of the box and chipped it over the keeper finding the far side of the net.

Mars Hill would tie things up at 1-all midway through the first half as Tate found the far post from outside the box.

Converse would strike right before the half with a goal by Alex Marquez (West Hills, Calif.). The play started with Julia Babic (Toronto, Ontario) intercepting the pass at midfield and sending a through ball up to Marquez for the one time and finding the far post from the left side of the box.

Coming out of the half, the Lions would net the equalizer, 2-2, off the foot of Tate. 

Less than a minute later, the Valkyries would find the back of the net from Sara Dorsett off the assist from Mariah Elliott but would be waved off due to an offsides call.

With time winding down in the second half, Emily Barry (Wheaton, Ill.) ripped two shots off free kicks from 40 yards out but was saved by the Lions' keeper.

Nicole Doolittle (Orlando, Fla.) had a chance to find the back of the net in final minute of regulation but was blocked.

Mars Hill had a chance to end it in double overtime on a free kick just outside the penalty area but the crossbar kept the ball out of the back of the net.

Converse returns to the confines of Fulp Field on Saturday, September 10 in the Conference Carolinas home opener against Barton at 2pm.
