Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse found the back of the net in the second overtime to lift the Valkyries to a 1-0 victory over Conference Carolinas foe King on Saturday evening on Senior Night for the Valkyries.
Darby Boyd (Nags Head, N.C.) sent a wicked ball into the box and bounced off King's keeper Drake and rolled to the left side of the six yard box. Mariah Elliott (Tolland, Conn.) slotted the rebound between the keeper's hands and the left post to give the Valkyries the victory in double overtime.
Converse (11-6-1, 7-4) and King (9-6-2, 7-3-1) battled throughout the entire match with neither team able to find the back of the net. Elliott had a chance early in the match to give the Valkyries the lead in the 4' but sailed just over the post.
King tried to win it in the first overtime period grabbing three corner kicks within a one minute span but the Valkyries back line (Cimone Francis, Emily Barry, Olivia Grose, Halley Wisner) kept the Tornado offense at bay.
Converse caps off the regular season with a record with 11-6-1 and a 6-3 record at home. The Valkyries honored eight seniors tonight: Darby Boyd, Cimone Francis, Georgia Jones, Natalie Johnson, Olivia Grose, Erika Hanson, Mikhaila Lisicki, and Bethany Spivey.
The Valkyries will travel to Bristol, Tenn. to face King in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Monday, November 2. Kick-off is at 2pm.
