Box Score DUE WEST, S.C.- Converse Soccer continued their offensive explosion on Wednesday evening scoring five goals in a 5-1 victory over Conference Carolinas foe Erskine. The Valkyries posted four goals in the final 45 minutes of the match to take a stronghold on the match.
Converse (9-6, 5-4) have won four straight matches and have outscored opponents 18-4 during that stretch and three straight Conference Carolinas matches allowing two goals.
Converse started off the scoring in the 26' when Anyah Preston (Marshall, Mich.) found the back of the net after the ball found her foot from Halley Wisner (Rising Sun, Md.). Preston's goal was after Converse hit the crossbar on a penalty kick.
The Valkyries came out of the half huddle only up 1-0. Alex Marquez (West Hills, Calif.) posted one of her two goals on the match in the 50' after Ella Ritchie (Derby, England) sent a volley to Marquez near the middle of the box. Marquez bounced the ball up to herself and headed the ball past the Erskine keeper for a 2-0 advantage.
Erskine (1-13, 0-7) would find the back of the net sliding the ball past the keeper coming off the line.
Converse responded less than thirty seconds later when Marquez found the back of the net for her second goal of the match after receiving a pass from Darby Boyd (Nags Head, N.C.) in the far right post.
The Purple and Gold continued the attack less than two minutes later when senior Natalie Johnson (Leicester, England) put the ball on the top shelf to give the Valkyries a 4-1 advantage midway through the second half.
Converse put the final nail in the coffin in the 85' when Cassidy Marshall (Canterbury, Conn.) found Josie Davis (Palm Coast, Fla.) streaking up the left side of the field. Davis found the lower far post to put the Valkyries up 5-1.
The Valkyries return home on Saturday, October 24 against Lees-McRae in a crucial Conference Carolinas match up. Kick-off is at 6pm.
