Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse did not disappoint fans on Saturday evening as the Valkyries produced the most goals in a match this season and most since 2004 in a 7-0 shutout victory over Emmanuel in a Conference Carolinas match.
Converse (8-6, 4-4) started the scoring in the 9' off a corner kick by Ella Ritchie (Derby, England). Ritchie sent the corner into the box and found Emily Barry (Wheaton, Ill.). Barry would knee the ball over to Darby Boyd (Nags Head, N.C.) for the opening goal of the match.
The Valkyries continued the scoring in the 16' when Boyd would net her historic 22nd career goal off a cross from Nicole Doolittle (Orlando, Fla.) Doolittle's pass came from the left side of the box and found Boyd in stride to blister it past the Emmanuel (2-9, 2-5) keeper.
Converse added a goal in the 27' from the corner kick. The ball bounced around the box on an attempted clearout but found the foot of Halley Wisner (Rising Sun, Md.) in the middle of the box and navigated it through the crowd to find the back of the net.
Cassidy Marshall (Canterbury, Conn.) jumped in on the scoring in the 44' scoring off another Valkyrie corner. Marshall was there to clean up the attempted clear for her first goal of her collegiate career.
Converse went into the break up 4-0 on Emmanuel. The scoring did not stop for the Valkyries scoring three more goals in the second stanza.
Georgia Jones (Solihull, England) found the back of the net off a direct free kick to pad the Valkyries lead at 5-0.
Emmanuel was called for a handball on the endline giving Ella Ritchie the penalty kick. Ritchie ripped it to the right side of the cage for the 6-0 advantage.
Mariah Elliott (Tolland, Conn.) brought the scoring to a close in the 57' after Jones played the ball to Elliott, who found the back of the net.
Converse posted seven goals in the match, most goals scored this season and most dating back to November 1, 2004 when the Valkyries (then All-Stars) scored nine goals against Spartanburg Methodist in a 9-2 victory. It is the most goals scored in a match against a Division II opponent since Converse posted a 7-1 victory against Mount Olive on October 5, 2003.
The Valkyries head on the road to face Erskine on Wednesday, October 21. Kick-off is at 5pm.
