Box Score CENTRAL, S.C.-Converse scored all three goals within a 10 minute span as the Valkyries cruised to a win against Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday night, 3-1. The Valkyries improve to 7-6 on the season and move to 3-4 in league play. SWU was handed their 10th defeat on the year and remain winless in conference play in seven tries.
After SWU netted the opening goal of the match in the 8' on a breakaway, Nicole Doolittle (Orlando, Fla.) found the equalizer in the 18' finding the back of the net off the pass from Darby Boyd (Nags Head, N.C.). Doolittle received the pass from Boyd inside the box and found the nylon near post. It was Doolittle's fifth goal of the year.
Mariah Elliott (Tolland, Conn.) scored her third goal of the season and the eventual game-winner in the 22' scoring from the left side of the cage. Elliott's shot came from the left side of the box and put over the Warrior keeper's head finding the right side of the net for a 2-1 Valkyrie advantage.
Darby Boyd would post the final goal of the match in the 27' to put the match out of reach early on her only shot attempt of the match. Boyd posted her sixth goal on the season and 20th in her career.
The Valkyries had multiple chances throughout the match to add on to their lead but couldn't find the back of the net. Converse posted 17 shots on goal compared to SWU with four.
Converse used the entire roster against the Warriors with 14 Valkyries recording a shot. Mikhaila Lisicki (Gilbert, Ariz.) had the best look at scoring when a free kick banged off the crossbar and went straight down but was cleared off the back line by the Warriors.
The Valkyries produced a season-high 14 corners on the evening and shuting out SWU on that front.
Savannah Humphries (Boiling Springs, S.C.) picked up the win in cage with one goal allowed and one save. Josee Waitrovich (Waupaca, Wisc.) came in for relief recording two saves.
Converse heads home for a weekend Conference Carolinas clash against Emmanuel on Saturday, October 17 at 6pm. The match will be the Valkyries' Pink match.
