Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse Soccer tallied another to the winning streak, dominating the pitch on Sunday afternoon against Chowan University, 3-0. The Valkyries improve to 3-1 on the season, while Chowan remains winless at 0-3.
Converse did not waste time with its attack scoring in the 10th minute of the match off the foot of freshman Carla Keegan, scoring her first collegiate goal. The San Antonio, Texas native received a through ball from fellow freshman, Anna Youmans, allowed Keegan they space she needed to find the back of the net.
Keegan would push the lead to 2-0 at the 20:28 mark in the first half converting on a penalty kick. Ellen Whichard created the PK opportunity for Keegan after getting fouled hard inside the box by the Hawk keeper.
Converse would stretch its lead to 3-0 after half time off the foot of Sarah Ingle. Ingle received a long through ball from Emily Barry at the midfield position for the breakaway score. Ingle notched her first collegiate goal.
Keegan led the Valkyrie attack with five shots (three on goal). Mikhaila Lisicki, Youmans, and Ingle tallied four shots apiece. Erika Hanson, Barry, and Alex Marquez tallied one shot on goal.
Converse's defensive unit denied the Hawk forwards momentum and created turnovers. Chowan failed to record a shot. Joscelyn Wallace (3-1) played all 90 minutes between the pipes, picking up her second shutout in a row.
Converse returns to the pitch on Tuesday, 9/16, squaring off with Coker College. First touch is slated for 6pm.
