SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Valkyrie attack struck early and often for Converse in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinal match against Mount Olive on Tuesday evening.  Converse struck twice in the opening frame and cruised in the second half of a 3-1 victory, posting its first ever postseason victory.

Converse (15-2-1) scored twice in the first 20' to put the Valkyries in a comfortable position.  The first goal came at the 3:17 mark off the boot of Darby Boyd (Nags Head, N.C.).  Ella Ritchie (Wirksworth, England) drew in the defenders on the right side of the box and slid a pass over to Boyd for an easy goal.  Boyd's goal was the first of the season.

The Valkyries jumped out to a 2-0 lead once again set up by Ritchie.  The freshman forward took the attack down the far sideline and sent a cross through the box and dropped at the feet of Alex Marquez (West Hill, Calif.).  Marquez finished the pass near post for her seventh goal of the season.

Mount Olive (6-12-1) cracked the scoreboard in the 29' sending a Trojan cross through the box from Nichole Poppe.  Maddy Roback headed the ball down allowing the ball to bounce through the hands of Savannah Humphries (Boiling Springs, S.C.).

Converse went into the half with a 2-1 lead.  In the 79' Nicole Doolittle (Orlando, Fla.) ripped a shot that was initially saved by the Trojan keeper but rebounded and Julia Babic (Toronto, Ontario) cleaned it up for the 3-1 lead.

Converse outshot Mount Olive 15-6 with 12-2 shots on goal.  Humphries picked up her sixth win of the season playing 82:45 with Joscelyn Wallace (Vancouver, British Columbia) finishing out the match.

The Valkyries will host the Conference Carolinas Final Four starting on Friday.  Converse will play in the first match of the night starting at 5:30pm against Belmont Abbey.  The Valkyries defeated the Crusaders just over a week ago, 2-0.
