Box Score Columbia, S.C.- This night has been a long time coming for the Valkyries, as Converse secured its first ever winning season after defeating Columbia (S.C.) 5-2 on Wednesday night. Since the Converse soccer program was reinstated in 1998, only under the direction of current head coach John Constable have the Valkyries found winning ways. Converse improves to 10-1 on the season, while Columbia (S.C.) drops to 6-6 on the season. Converse has won 10 straight matches and five in a row on the road.
The Valkyries posted its highest goal tally of the season scoring five goals on Columbia (S.C.) thanks to two goals by Haley Wisner (Rising Sun, Md.). Wisner also recorded an assist in the win. Reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, Natalie Johnson (Leicester, England) tallied two assists in the win both allowing Wisner to score.
Ella Ritchie (Wirksworth, England), Mariah Elliott (Tolland, Conn.) and Sarah Ingle (Summerfield, N.C.) also added goals in the victory. Georgia Jones (Solihull, England) and Olivia Grose (Milford, Mass.) tallied assists along with Johnson (2) and Wisner
The Valkyries head to Banner Elk, N.C. to square off with Lees-McRae Oct. 11 at 3pm. Lees-McRae is 4-5-1 on the season but holds tight to a tie for second place with Limestone in the Conference Carolinas with a 3-1-1 record.
