SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Crusaders of Belmont Abbey bested the Valkyries with a 5-1 score Monday, October 4th at Hayden Abney Fulp Field.
Belmont Abbey took control of the match early with a 14th minute goal by Emily Archer, and would not look back. They stuck again in the 35th minute with Katie Rastello scoring off the assist from Nicole Voets, and took a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Crusaders came out strong in the second half with Megan Gitchell and Kelsey Lovell adding goals created from corner kicks. Connie Axiotis scored in the 67th minute for the Crusaders to make it 5-0, before Converse sophomore Jana Gentry (Spartanburg, SC)scored her 6th goal of the season off the assist from Lindsay Eller in the 72nd minute. The goal was only the fourth goal scored against Belmont Abbey this season. The score would hold at 5-1 until the final whistle.
Converse will be back in action at home on Saturday against St. Andrews at 4pm.
